Hi, as already well said an objective is an outcome or a goal - it can be a reason for doing something - planned and sometimes not.

Objective from wikipedia and from Dictionary.com ..

Have you ever looked at an activity and asked what the Children, yourself and others gain from getting it ready, presenting it and playing / possibly learning from it ?

If a tower of 6 or more blocks was built - were the blocks numbered and was unassisted / unguided learning opportunity at a good or high level - would an objective be to freely play with balancing, construction, building up and out, on and above so that positioning & positional, time to plan and later evaluate, skill, sense of attainment / achievement etc could be acqcuired.. or possibly to count in order &/or by rote with and without guidance be part of the activity objectives... or maybe both .. or maybe none.

A step further might be to question and ask what are the objectives and who has jurisdiction over them and in what capacity .. staff, children another party - and in some circumstances it could be good practice to challenge the motives for objectives ..

Different groups have different ways of presenting their objectives:
A Toy Library in Guernsey objectives: Preschool Toy Library
from Surestart their Programme objectives

And written for an audience Wakefield Parent Partnership objectives translate to this excellent information: Wakefieldparentpartnerships.co.uk

Objectives of and for a Treasure Basket - Heuristic play ..

Gone on a bit sorry .. hope it all helps
xx

Yes, but could be in more detail such as gross motor skills or fine motor skills to refine it a bit.

Sorry would have replied to other thread but been at work all day!

Hi,

Physical skills - gross and fine motor could be a way in which you might obtain an objective.

Although as Noah says building physical skills is an umbrella type objective in itself

If you take the early learning goals as an example .. under each of the 6 learning areas is a set of goals .. these can be looked at as objectives, as in they are what you would like the children to be able to achieve and for them to be able to enjoy doing ..

PSED ~ Personal, Social, Emotional Development
CLL ~ Communication, Language & Literacy
MD ~ Mathmatical Development
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
KNUW ~ Knowledge & Understanding of the World
PD ~ Physical Development
CD ~ Creative Development

See what sort of activities you can provide the children with to obtain those goals/objectives ..

Developing catching skills can only be done with a resource to catch .. this is where planning helps to ensure equipment that's needed is available.

Level 3 diploma handbook and child observations on amazon

When you observe physical skills ask what you think the goal or objective of the activity might be, and if you know the reasons why the activity was planned - it could be to improve physical skills as a whole or possibly more specifically - to help the child pedal or move a bike along, to catch a ball without dropping it, to throw and hit a target, to roll a hoopla from one end of a playground to the other .. to roll it and be able to stop it mid roll .. or maybe catch it just before it falls over - or maybe to hula hoop it on the waist/hips ?? I'm still trying to obtain that goal ..

Objectives are numerous, being very individual to the need and experience of the practitionr identifying them - you may see ways for the children to be able to reach goals in a very different way to how someone else may ..
