I think this is to do with carrying out risk assessments for each activity eg the risk of someone being hurt or becoming ill eg using rounded knives during a cooking activity and making sure that the children are not allergic to any of the ingredients you are using, checking that the environment is safe both indoors and outdoors before the children arrive eg removing any animal faeces, any potentially poisionous plants, making sure the floor is dry and not slippery, making sure the water in the water trough is not too hot etc

and following the settings policies and proceedures on Health and Safety eg washing hands before cooking, supervising the children properly, clearing up properly at the end of the activity so children do not slip or trip, giving children a space to rest, staying in line with staff/children ratios, making sure a first aider is available if required, only using equipment that has been properly checked and approved as safe for use.....
