Hi,

Observations:
-- requires knowledge of the different types of observations available, their effectiveness in differing situations and practice in using them.
Observations in early years book on amazon.co.uk and thread for observation types

Assessment Frameworks:
About the CAF - Common Assessment Framework on education.gov.uk
Depending on your home nation, its early years framework and accompanying resources will include assessment information

Standard measurement
about standard measurement eg. healthy child programme, development checks, tests, exams.

Information from colleagues and carers
-- how does your setting share information?
-- is there enough time to talk?
-- what eg. books, meetings, forms, documents, newsletters are exchanged to keep everyone informed & updated?
-- is and how is the information used?

Unit CYP 31. / unit 1 / unit 021

Hi, what ways do the staff in your setting/placement monitor children's developement?

Are observations taken?
Are 2 yr development checks happening?
Does the local authority ask for 'best fit' judegements to made on a sheet they provide?
Do learning journals or diaries track what children do?
Are milestones recorded?
Do you use any type of development sheet in your setting?
How are children's interests and accomplishments supported through your planning?

Monitoring development ensures you're able to identify what children are and aren't routinely doing and also enables you to intervene early and support children if their development isn't progressing as you would expect it to.

More information for unit cyp3.1
