Anti-bacterial soap do you use it?

As this is a confusing issue and one that settings all seem to do differently ( and ofsted inspectors have differing views) we have emailed ofsted for advice, we will then file the reply in case we have a problem during an inspection!

Sarah - just a throught have you asked your link consultant from SSSP. We've got Karen Flower who is yours. It would be interesting if we both ask to see if they give the same answer wouldn't it?

I've spoken to our local SSSP and they say carry on with using anti-bac soap as there isn't a problem and said if you use PSLA policy as a base just delete that bit out. Hope that makes sense

We have had a reply from Ofsted and they have said

Ofsted does not recommend the use of antibacterial hand soap and sprays, but nor do we criticise their responsible use as part of a risk-assessed approach to hygiene.

Funny isn't it - our Ofsted went and observed our children washing their hands (anti bac soap being used). She read our daily checklists which stated anti-bac soap and then praised us for our hygiene standards.

We've decided to continue using it!!!
