Lightbulb Library Book system ?

How do you orgainse your library/book corner system ?

Do you allow children to take a book home to share or invite parents in to look at the books together ?

Have you ever invited local Librarians in to talk about how the system for lending books out works in a more busisness styled practice, and what sort of information have you included in your newsletters about book lending services available in your area ?

This is an area that Iam trying to develop at the moment - see my other thread
We let the children choose a book each week to take home and share with their family.
We also do a visit to the library usually in the summer term.
We are also about to do a display board for the childrens library in the local town based on a book.
Book start have just sent us our treasure chests and book bags for the younger children which we wil incorparate into world book day in March.

Your other thread prompted this one lol

The display board sounds like a great project, are the local newspapers interested in this type of joint venture or your local Council's magazine maybe ?

At our school, all the little ones have a book they fill in, for the parents to date and to comment in when they read at home with their children. At the lower end 4-5 year olds, if they read with their parents at home, they get a stamp for each read and if they read 5 times in a week with a relative, they get a bag of flumps on Fridays and a sticker in assembly to encourage them to read more out of school.

As for the books, they are given a new reading book by the teacher as needed and then once a week they get to go to the school library and pick one book of their own choosing.

We tried using the little books to get the parents to record what they hsd read but very few parents wrote in them - so we now have a home to school link book which we add little notes about what the child has enjoyed during the morning and encourage the parents to write anthing they have done at home. We are lucky as we are sessional we get to see the parents and have a chat at drop off and collection time.

I let the children choose a book each week from the Pink box we get from Family Services via our local library, they tend to put in all the terms topics quite well and include dual language and multicultural books aswell. The children refer to the box as the special books and really look forward to having alook. The parents are always keen to take and return the library books each week. I am also in the process of arranging a lady from the library to come see us they do a creative activity and talk about the library.
