Hi, if you have this STL level 3 handbook page 57+ will help

From page 67

Use agreed strategies to, assess and manage risk to own and other's safety

You will to need to know how to manage risks to yourself and others. If you are in any doubt about your ability to do this, you must always refer to another member of staff. Your school's behaviour and health and safety policies should give guidelines for dealing with challenging behaviour and also the use of restraint, which may be based on local guidelines.

Children will not always be aware of risk and dangerous situations, particularly if they are very young or are caught up in what they are doing. Therefore, when speaking to them you should always point out the consequences of their behaviour.

When you are assessing risks to safety, thesae may be due to:
  • a child who is violent or aggressive
  • a situation which has got out of control for example, an argument
Challenging behaviour - behaviour which may involve verbal or physical abuse, or behaviour which is illegal or distructive.

If possible ask for copies of those policies from your setting/school and talk to a senior colleague about your responsibilities when it comes to assessing and managing challenging behaviour.

Hope this helps x
