Hi, welcome to the site, this page may help http://www.silkysteps.com/pages-cypw...d-setting.html

What sorts of settings are considered Community Based?

Pre-schools and playgroups
Community Nurseries
Childrens Centres
OUt-of-school clubs

What are the features and purpose of Community Based settings?

Quote p.401of the CYPW handbook CYPOP 3

The purpose and features sof a community-based setting

All early years providers have to follow a structure of learning, develoment and care for children. In England this iscalled the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables children to learn through a range of activities. THe main principles
  • children learn through play
  • providers work closely with parents
  • the child's learning at home is taken into account
  • parents and guardians are kept up to date on the chil;d's progress
  • It is inclusive - it ensures the welfare, learning and all-round development of children with different backgrounds and levels of ability, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
How can Community Based settings support the local community?
Quote page 403 CYPW level 3 book

A community-based early years setting can play a positive role in building a stronger community. For example, by increasing opportunities for all children to play, through developing new facilities and maximising the use of exisitng ones. A communityy-based setting also encourages community development by recognisiing and valuing the crucial role parents and carers play in their child's learning and development and engages them as partnes inservice development.

The early years setting influences the developing attitudes of children within in and can be a powerful vehicle for the promotion ofunderstanding and practice of equal opportunities. Every member (or potential member) of the setting should be regarded as of equal worth and importance, irrespective of his/her creed, culture, class, race, gender, sexuality and/or disability.

The benefits of these settings can be found on this thread
