Hi, legislation is the Health and Safety at work act 1974
and the MOHR Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992

The regulations and act aren't sector specific so advice, guidance and training for lifting, moving and handling would be recommended.

Moving and handling in social care on HSE

There are 'good habits' for lifting in the collins handbook - on amazon.co.uk on page 385 of unit 066 aka EYMP 3

Tips
ALWAYS
Think carefully before lifting or moving anything heavy
Ask for assistance if you think something might be too heavy
Reduce the weight of the equipment if possible eg. by taking things out of the box
Bend your knees, place your feet apart and lift using your leg muscles but keeping your back straight when lifting anything from the floor.

NEVER
Lift anything heavy with your back bent
Twist or turn while you are lifting anything

Best wishes
