you need to take into account the age of the child and the kind of language they understand, wether english is their first language, to promote effective communication you need to go down to their level and keep eye contact. If it is for adults you also need to know wether english is their first language and understand their culture as some cultures don't like to be touched or may find gestures with the hand frightening or threatening.
