Hi

The Channel 4 programme 'Leaving home at 8 is quite insightful and details how transitions are controlled through contact - regulated by recommendations in regards to when to contact, who to contact, how long and if appropriate - visits, weekends home, phone calls.

Who the authority figures are and who is on hand to liase - with children, with parents between children & parents and coping through activity - keeping busy, active, to become tired.

The girls at the end of the prgramme state which transitional times they find the hardest - bedtime, speaking on the phone and saying goodbye. At the interview, which is at the end of the first term sees both girls agree that the best way to overcome any feelings of distress is to 'Get it over and done with as quickly as possible'.

This pdf Foster care and adoption research from York.ac.uk is good dated 2005 I think and these tips from a blog - Foster care transition are really nice. Another option would be to see what information you can locate for your own local fostering procedures/processes and identify the transitional situations Children may experience. If anyone else has information for this I'd be very interested to hear ..

Hth xx
