Hi, have you contacted your course provider to ask them what you need to be using to research this?

Ask them if this is a recommended handbook - on amazon.co.uk or if there is a more appropriate one.

You don't mention which unit title this criteria is from and if it relates to particular policies and procedures - food handling, inclusion, safe working practices?

Hi you need to read page 176+ of the EYE level 3 handbook xx

It lists and explains the following laws and regulations relating to safeguarding and once you know the policies that your setting has in place you'll see how they inform them (guide what they contain)

Health and Safety at work act 1974
COSHH control of substances hazardous to health regulations 2002
Manual handling and operations regulations 1992
RIDDOR reporting oof injuries, Diseases and dangerous Occurences Regulations 2013
Health and Safety (first aid) regulations 1981
Food hygiene regulations 2006
Food information regulations 2014
Personal Protective Equipment at work regulations 1992
Data Protection Act 1998
Children Act 1989
The Children Act 2004
Childcare Act 2006

eg. policies and procedures;

Health and Safety
risk assessment
food safety
health and hygiene
infection control and prevention of illness
fire safety
first aid
accidnets and emergencies
safety during arrival and departure times, and on outings
evacuation procedures
administration of medicine

Safeguarding children
child protection
missing child
non-collection of child
death of a child
complaints against the registered provider or a member of staff

Record keeping
sharing information
confidentiality
children's records

Staffing
staffing ratios
recruitment and deployment
volunteers and parent helpers
disciplinary and grievance procedures
students and induction
whistleblowing

Childcare practices
behaviour management
identification and assessment of children with additional educational needs
settling in
daily routines
play and learning

Equality and inclusion
valuing diversity
special educational needs (SEN)

Partnership with parents and carers
working in partnership with other agencies
key person system

Quote from page 183 of the Childcare and Education
The relationship between legislation, policy and procedure
Every aspect of early years care and education i subject to legislation in the relevant area of the UK. These laws are reinforced by the use of policies and procedures in early years settings. Policies are a statement of intent for different aspects of the setting, and procedures outline the ways in which policies can be carried out.
For example every setting must conform to the current legislation on health and safety. Each setting has its own policy with regard to meeting those requirements and the procedures to be followed in different situations.

Legislation for child protection -Protection of children act 1999
and guidelines can be found in 'Working together to safeguard children 2015'

The welfare requirements of a home nations early years framework puts the minimum standard of practice in place.

Hi, yes legislation is a word for all law - definition of legislation

and yes all setting's that have public interaction are required to have policies and procedures in place to protect everyone who enters the property.

It was a different book & author sorry - this is yours? and this is the one I linked to on amazon.co.uk

Check page 106 of your book for legislation that relates to safeguarding, health and safety. The acts and summaries are contained in a table.

Page 108 LO2 explains the importance of policies and procedures and why they need to be, and are informed (guided) by law.

Unit 2.2 provides you with the knowledge and information you need to then go on and analyse in 1.3

Analyse Break the topic down into separate parts and examine each part. Show how the main ideas are related and why they are important.

Use the knowledge and understanding that you've read in your handbook.
Read the policies and procedures that you've obtained from your setting.

Compare and review them.

Best wishes

Hi, you're very welcome, google word definition is a huge help in breaking down word meanings and the challenges involved with distance learning have indeed been mentioned once or twice on the forum :)

Best wishes with your study xx
