banging head against the wall, totally stuck on what to write and how to start it... any help is appreciated

In your work role with children you have been asked to produce an information area in your workplace for stakeholders, who may include staff, adults carers, children and young people. To support understanding and raise awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion, presenting the following information.

This is what I have written, not sure if its correct though..


An explanation of what is meant by:
• Diversity
• Equality
• Inclusion
• Participation

Diversity - refers to the difference of individuals and an understanding that everyone is unique not matter of race – gender – disability – religion – sexuality – age - family background/status - political views.

Meaning – is to investigate the difference in a safe and positive environment and understanding each other to embracing and celebrating individual festivals.

Equality – is ensuring individuals or groups are treated fairly to their needs, including areas of race - gender – disability – religion – sexuality – age - family background/status.

Meaning - everyone is equal and has the same rights and chances in life.

Inclusion – refers to involving and recognising that all children and young people have a right to a broad education and appropriate support, a right to attend their local setting or school.

Meaning - Inclusion should increase the participation of all children not just those with a disability or additional need, reducing discrimination or bias of race - gender – disability – religion – sexuality – age- family background/status.

Participation – involves protecting and promoting children and young people’s right’s, supporting equality of access to local settings and schools, providing information of children, families, communities. Implanting producers and providing information about accessing provisions to meet the needs of children and young people.

Meaning – Children and young people must be welcomed, we as practitioners must ensure that barriers are identified and removed enabling children/ young people to participate.
Views of children and young people should be respected and practice to be adapted to suit the ages, needs and abilities. Children and young people should also take a part in making choices and decision that affect them.

Discrimination – is an act of prejudice against a person or groups of people because of certain characteristics, such as; race - gender – disability – religion – sexuality – age- family background/status.

Meaning – Ensuring that all children, young people, adults, colleagues and other professionals are treated in an unbiased, fair and non- prejudiced way.

Laws and legalisations to keep in mind are;
the children’s act 1999 and 2004
Equality act 2001
United Nations convention on the rights of the child 1990
Protection of children act 1999
Sexual offence act 2003
Special education needs and disabilities act 2001

Hi,

You seem to have the definitions there, but your task is to produce an information area, so I would put these definitions into information leaflets, posters etc. Think about who they would be aimed at, what terminology has been used.. will children understand the laws behind it or the pictures used? Perhaps you could simulate an example of how someone has been discriminated against, how the felt and how they overcame it. Leaflets to support workers and parents to ensure they are promoting an all inclusive setting.

Think about in your setting, what examples are there for information areas, is it just written or are there posters and leaflets. You just need to put an explanation of each term into a different format than written.
