Hi, welcome to the site, you only need to look at the early years framework for your home nation - one of four that makes up the UK.

Which do you work in? - Home nations

Legal status is explained in the framework and guidance materials eg. in England it might be the development matters booklet and any documents that a local authority provides a setting with.

EYFS is my relevent framework, I've read up and searched every site I can find, I understand the national and local guidence materials just not the legal status and principles, I've even looked at my level 3 book. And nothing is going in :(

Hi, legal status is that it's mandatory, it's a framework that all registered providers must have regard to and work at fulfiling and evidencing the requirements. This is why OfStEd inspects individual settings and makes sure national standards and law is being met.

EYFS 2012 on archived education.gov.uk and how EYFS 2012 relates to legislation
