help with nvq cyp 3.2 observation methods - what to use for physical and communication development

Hi could anyone help me. I'm having to my observations on a child and im just wondering which method would be best to asses physical and which method would be best suited to communication.
any help would be grateful

If it was me doing them I would do a tick chart for physical and prob a narrative for communication

Hi there Helen..

Observations are usually done by your assessor in your school setting ~ I would assume that physical would be part of a Physical Education lesson and Communication would be you supporting a child during a Literacy lesson? In any case, just be yourself and your assessor will observe you in your job role... Good luck x

Idon't think she meant observatins by her assesor but as part of the course we have t carry out a variety of observations on children using different methods

i need to do a time sample then an event sample then an individual learning plan on a child with learning difficulties don't know where to start ?

Event sampling, this observation basically involves the observer recording on a checklist each time a child performs a specific action or exhibits a certain behaviour. An example of an event sample which may be recorded using this method includes observing each time a child exhibits signs of aggressive behaviour and any causes to that factor, what the observer would find is possible triggers for aggressive behaviour.

Time sampling are observations that are recorded at fixed regular intervals to note what is happening at that specific time, this kind of sampling can be used when there is a concern over a persons behaviour or an aspect of their behaviour. It involves observing a child over a morning, afternoon period or even full day.
