Hi, hoping this isn't too late.

The rate or speed at which a child develops is unique to that indivudual.
There are sequences and stages of development that we expect a child to follow eg. sitting up, first steps and walking then running. However the age and 'quickness' at which a child achieves each of these milestones/stages can differ. That rate of a child's development can be affected by biological and environmental factors.

Aspects of these factors are explored on page 348+ of this level 3 EYE book.

Biological factors:
  • Chronic medical conditions eg. epilepsy, asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes
  • Learning dificulty eg. Fragile X, Down's syndrome, autism
  • Physical Impairement or disability eg, deafness, sight problems, spiina bifida
Environmental factors
  • Cramped living conditions/no outdoor space
  • poor diet
  • Attachment with parents
  • Parenting style
These factors can have a short or long term affect meaning they will need additional support. This thread will help https://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20937

All the best xx
