Hi, pages 8-11 of this EYE handbook look at the nutritional needs of children and the age and stage of development that sees them moving/being weaned from a liquid milk diet to one that involves solid foods - first as puree, mashed and then whole.

If you search inside the book's amazon preview for the word 'weaning' click to page 8

Also check with your setting to see what their policy and procedures say about staff supporting children through this transition.

Does your setting promote baby-led weaning?
Does it talk to parents about the type of foods children have?

From page 8 Weaning Programmes

There are three stages in weaning. Each stage is important as it helps babies to learn the skills of eating and also introduces new tastes and foods. This means that deciding what babies need will depend on the stage of weaning that they have reached. Early years settings also have to work in partnership with parents when drawing up a weaning programme. This is because some babies may have special dietary needs or their parents may have dietary preferences.

Stages of weaning are:
  1. Pureed and mashed foods from six months old
  2. Soft finger foods, mashed and chopped foods from 8-9 months
  3. Finger foods from 12 months old
See the table on page 9 - search for the phrase weaning

Hope this helps xx
