Please talk about babies weight:
Should a healthy child always gain in weight?
During the first week there is usually a
loss, but after this time a child that is perfectly healthy should gain steadily throughout the first year.
Why do babies loose weight in their first week of life?
This weight loss is normal and is partly due to the relatively small amount of food they need initially. In addition, newborn babies need to adjust to life outside the uterus and now have to take in, digest, and absorb their food, rather than have it supplied through the placenta.
At what time is the gain most rapid?
During the first four months.
How much should a healthy baby weigh at the end of four and a half months?
About twice as much as at birth.
How much at the end of the first year?
About three times as much as at birth.
What is the average weekly gain of a healthy baby?
From four to eight ounces during the first six months, and from two to four ounces during the second six months.
Why is weighing necessary?
Because nothing else tells so accurately how well the baby is thriving.
Why it is important to take this into consideration when feeding children under one year:
- Making sure the baby is getting enough nutrition
- Making sure the baby is developing well
- Picking up on any problems as soon as possible
- Checking the baby isn't underweight or overweight
- Making sure the baby has a healthy digestion system
