question was recognition of social factors eg substance abuse, and the possible behaviours of adults involed in child abuse
Children with parents who are abusing substances are often left in vulnerable situation, this is because the parents are unaware that they are being abusive, that there drug or alchol addiction is taking over their lifes causing them to focus on their addiction rather than meeting the needs of their children.
Substance abuse in parents may result in neglect and/or abuse of their child(ren)
For example, if a parent is using drugs they may be unable to see to their child's basic needs (food, warmth, clothing, love) resulting in neglect of the child.
In order to meet the needs of their addiction the parent may take their children into suituation which are inappropriate, for example a drug deelers house, which means children could witness inappropriate behaviour of drug taken, exposer to needles, unclean unsafe enviroment.
Alternatively children could be left at home alone, which holds a huge amount of danger to a child, a child who has witness their parents drug/alchol abuse may be temped to copy their parents by ingesting alchol/drugs resulting in fatal circumstances.
