Hi, welcome to the site. This is about the uncertainty you might feel as a professional when you find yourself with information that you know is sensitive and now have to consider what to do with it.

Ethics are the 'should yous and shouldn't yous and why.

You have a legal obligation to safeguard children through a duty of care, to uphold the standards of the sector and the aims of your home nation's framework (England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) where it comes to safeguarding and child protection. So ignoring information that could cause harm or indicates harm has occured is not an option - doing so would give rise to allegations or complaints of negligence.

You also have a legal obligation to maintain an individual's right to confidentiality ie. not sharing information that is given to you.

Both of these create a conflict or tension as to when and what information needs to be shared and with whom.

I hope this helps xx

The search page will help find other threads - unit numbers differ so using words from the assessment criteria will be more successful :)

If you've access to a handbook the cyp 3.3 and 3.6 units look at maintaining confidentiality, safeguarding and children's wellbeing.

Best wishes
