other people involved in supporting speech, language and communication may include local early years advisory teams, special education needs coordinates, speech therapists, health visitors, and educational psychologist’s.

Using what you know about multi-agency working. Explain how these teams work together.

Hi, welcome to silkysteps.

This criteria is based on your working knowledge and what a setting's practice, or possible practice is.

Consider what links are in place for refferal, advice, support.

Using the people and services listed ie.
  • local early years advisory teams
  • special education needs coordinator
  • speech therapists
  • health visitors
  • educational psychologist
see how you're associated, or could be associated with them and how they could be associated with each other.

Knowing this helps you provide the support, intervention and potential sign-posting needed for children to achieve positive outcomes - ECM and linking ECM to UNCRC

Who are/is your local EYs team? are there any details online - Find your local authority
Who is your SENCO - where are they based .. at your setting, school? How do you contact them
What would you contact them for?
How would they be able to help?
Who would they be able to refer to or recommend?

People you may meet is a booklet written to help explain to parents the roles that different professionals and agencies have.

The Healthy Child Programme is a screening and develomental 'checkup that is delivered by Health Visitors and in part determines where children are within a range of developmental norms, identifying where support might be needed. Pregnancy - 5 and 5 - 19 on DH.gov.uk

If in England the 2012 eyfs sets in place a duty to carry out a progress check at age 2. On page 12, it advises that the progress check is done at a time where it can inform the Healthy Child Programme and practitioners are then guided to encourage parent's and carers to share the information they recieve at a setting's 'summary of development' meeting or other named occasion with their health visitor or other professionals - eg. teacher/lead if a child moves setting. The joint agreement that might take place between a setting and parents/carers to arrange a date for a development meeting confirms parents know about the healthy child programme and that their health visitor/local surgery will be expecting them to make or attend a health review appointment.

If your setting provides information directly to a Health Visitor, how do you gain parent's consent and what's involved with talking/sending directly to your HV - a form, permission slip, a development chart..

Page 54 and 55 details the health review for 1 - 3 years - the Two to two-and-a-half-year health review
Page 20 & 21 explains how children's speech and language development, hearing and on pg 24 between the age of 4-5 sight impairements are topics of the health review and how CAF can be utilised to work in partnership with multiple external agencies.
How this is documented and who HV's refer to or recommend will be unique to your providers and the services they have available to them.

What you can ask about or use your exisiting knowledge on .. is if and how those listed professionals work together - who do they talk to each other and how .. eg. do HVs liase with speech therapists, do speech therapists talk with EY's is this done through CAF or/and the professional working network your setting has in place - multi-agency working and TAC team around the child do you work in partnership with parents and are informed of relevant news.
