Hi, if you have
this handbook pages 131 are good reading.
2.1 sources of support include colleagues, parents and families, organisations specialising in equality issues - The Equality Act, Human Rights,
Early Education,
NCB,
OMEP
2.2 page 131 By using reflective techniques you are able to review and evaluate your own practice. Having assessed the information about equality, diversity and inclusion, practitioners should reflect on the ways in which the information could improve their own practice.
3.3 page 138 you need to inspect your own attitude and values.
QUOTE
In the UK, there is now legislation on race, gender and disability discrimination, which helps teams of people working together to have an impact on racism, sexism and disablist attitudes and work practices, however unconscious these may be, In addition, it is important that each of us inspects what we do so that we become aware of our attitudes and values.
Only then can we act on the unwittingly discriminatory behaviour that we will almost inevitably find.
Discriminatory behaviour occurs when, usually without meaning it, we are sexist, racist or disablist. For example, an early childhood worker might ask for a strong boy to lift the chair. We need to look to see whether what we say we believe matches what we actually do. Sometimes it does not!
So then we have to do something about it.
