reception intake

Im just wondering if anyone knew if there was a set no of children that can be in one class, or does it all depend on space? I need to move my daughter to different school and have family who go there and have told me there is only 19 in the full time reception class, i have just phoned school and they have said it is full and i can pick up application form, this has frustrated me as viewing houses within school proximity but because we dont live in the area yet, we are not priority and the other school in town not good, i have good reasons for wanting to change my daughters school but i dont feel i should have to go into that as its messy, and need to get her out of where she is asap. Any advice?
:weepy:

i have just found out from family members whos children attend this school that the total for reception can be 42, 21 in each class, and i know that there are only 19 in full time class, family member also spoke to head this morn who said its full, so perhaps there are two starting later in term. Oh well just have to fill out the application form and play the waiting game.

sometimes they have to keep a place open for 'emergencies.' When my daugter was at school we had a half-way house nearby, and the school had to keep 4 places open.

Cabin, i was aware of emergency places as i have heard the nursery that my youngest daughter attends mention this before when i was on commitee, but what would be classed as an emergency case?

emergency usually refers to children who are looked after and need a place because of moving with no notice, travellers can be included, local halfway house or refuge, or often social services or other agency requesting a place for some reason. Can vary but those are the usual reasons we fill a emergency space, they are often referred by social services or local authority, refuge, or in our case it can be the speech therapist or local Springboard for children with special needs as we have a good programme set up to help the children ..we keep 2 which are often filled for 1 or 2 weeks at a time, occasionally longer for referrals from other agencies.
