Default factors within the early years settings which may impact upon the health and well-being of children?

Hi everyone. Can someone please help me with these 2 questions.
- how can physical activities be adapted for different age groups?

4.1 Describe factors within the early years settings which may impact upon the health and well-being of children

- Gender
- Religion/culture

4.1 is the main one i'm stuck on! Head has gone completely blank with this one. thanks everyone

Hi, sorry for the delay.

If it helps, for 4.1 consider the variety of resources you have in the setting that support all the children. eg. not all cars that could steryotypically be aimed at just boys to play, or dolls and pram solely for girls.

Think about the books, activities and foods the setting provides to learn about culture and religion.

If you search inside this CYPW handbook for the word gender, click to page 173 (scroll up to 171) to read about culture, religion and gender awareness.

This thread also notes the different factors you could expand on https://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?p=64685

Best wishes xx

Hi, page 324 of this EYE handbook looks at children's expected physical development and the different activities that offer opportunities to support that development.

0-1 years 11 months

With this age range, you need to make sure that you consider children's level of tiredness. Babies and toddlers who are tired will find it hard to control their movements and so may lack motivation or the energy to engage with an activity. It ia also worth remembering that they also need plenty of time to absorb and become familiar with a new resource or activity. it is important therefore not to rush or do too much too quickly. This age range can lose interest or becoime tired and so it ais important to be ready to stop before they lose enjoyment.

2-2 years 11 months

Children in this age range are known for tryimng to be very independant and also active, They may sometimes refuse an offer of help, even thought they clearly need assistance. It is important for adults therefore to be on 'stand-by'. Children of this age also have little awareness of danger and so need constant supervision. For opportunities involving wheeled toys, it is important to recognise that their steering skills are still in development and so they may not noticd that they are about to crash.

3-5 years

Children in this age range enjoy playing together. They may be keen to try out things that they can see others do but become disheartened if they are not as competent. Some skills such as throwing and catching need a lot of practice and they will need a patient adult to support their development. It is also useful to talk to children in this age range about possible risks when they are playing outdoors or with wheeled toys so that they can start to become aware of them and moderate their behaviour when necessary.

So to adapt physical activities for children in different age groups you would use your knowledge of their take what stage of development they're at, how long the activity is and how much time is available for the activity to happen, what resources are involved and how familiar the children are with those resources.

If you search inside the EYE handbook on amazon.co.uk look for the words 'promote physical development' and click to page 324

Hope this helps a little
