We have legislations drawn up by government and these are passed down to childcare setting through codes of practice, care standards and the national minimum standards which all settings are regualry inspected against. These legislations, codes of practice and standards have a definate impact on the various different policies and procedures, including safeguarding ones. The Birth to Three Matters and Foundation Phase, Wales, [Foundation Stage in England]all insist, promote and encourage a child centred approach. Without the child we have no nurseries. As good prctitioners we should be putting the needs and requirements of the child first and foremost into our everyday practice, by doing this we are taking a child centred approach. In our planning we are looking at promoting areas of development as well as enjoyment for the child - this is a child centred approach. In our routine we are considering what we do and how we do it, what is best for the child - this is a child centred approach. in providing items, materials and equipment we are looking at the age, stage of development, etc.. of the children in the setting - this is a child centred approach. In H&S we are looking at how we can best safeguard and protect the child - a child centred approach. In out manner and communication we consider the child - a child centred approach. In short everything we do within the setting is all centred around the child.
