In this example effective food management refers to the quantity, quality of the foods that we eat, serve to others and what this means.

The term takes into account how too much food and too little exercise can lead to obesity and potential health problems, in contrast, too great a focus on foods and children's weight can lead them to becoming undernourished, with bodies underweight that may also lead on in the same way to health problems - management is how a balance is created between these two extremes ensuring children's good health, well-being, growth and development

Food management considers ..
  • Diets:
    Vegan
    Vegetarian
-- vegetarianism that excludes egg - lacto vegetarianism
-- vegetariamism that includes fish - pescetarian
    Hindu diet
Jewish diets are guided by foods that are Kosher & comply with jewish law
Muslim diets are guided by foods that are Halal
  • The size of portions to serve
  • What foods to serve
  • Calorie awareness
  • and an awareness of children's weight that's considered to be healthy - this links to age and height.
Ideas to help share knowledge of food management with parents and children ..

Share information about food types, food groups, nutrition and what they do.. balanced nutrition on wales.direct
Do you provide menus, food pyramid details, activities that explore foods, healthy and less healthy choices.. sugar, calcium, iron, vitamin d ..

Share diversity and inclusive practice by promoting what food intolerances, allergies and sensitivities are, what they may mean to sufferers and how the issues with accessing services eg. safe meals & peoples attitudes, understanding can be overcome.
Distribute leaflets, fundraise for healthy foods for snack & interesting containers to serve them in, invite professionals in to chat about a condition ..

Support & invite children, parents, carers, professionals that have experience of challenging situations or times that may cause conflict, maybe provide information to help counter fussy / picky / selective eaters or children showing food avoidance behaviours.

Discuss too many food choices and too few food choices.
