Hi Lucyjess- you need to think about where the tensions may lie and how they will come about. it will usually occur with the child's parents or carers or may occur between people within setting.
tension will occur if a child discloses information to you and asks you not to tell, they have a right to confidentiality so what do you do?
if you suspect someone of abuse you need to speak to your child protection officer so you may have to breach a parents right to confidentiality. what about if you suspect a colleague?
You are allowed to breach the Data Protection Act if the ‘information is required to be made public’ i.e. you have to disclose information for the protection and wellbeing of a child, and also to assist in ‘the prevention or detection of a crime’.
When breaching confidentiality it is important that only the facts pertaining to the case are revealed. This way you can strike a balance between maintaining an individual’s rights to confidentiality and disclosure as result of concerns.
hope this helps get you started.
Mrs Noah
