Hi, my understanding of the need for evidence based practice is one for prooving practice, the provision of equality, what works & what doesn't.
Evidence can be interpreted as best practice, benchmarks, indicators of quality, performance, ability to judge and provide. Evidence enables a practitioner to reflect, evaluate, analyse, plan and adapt. Also to reference, quote, use to reassure, confirm, backup thoughts & actions.
Evidence based practice also enables identification of gaps, clarification of reasoning and can provide a way to find, or try solutions.
There are two approaches that I see for evidence & experimentation - not based on evidence which could cause unnecessary harm or based on evidence that hopefully would be more successful, where it wasn't would directly impact on the evidence.
Evaluating the need for evidence - my thoughts are always who wants it and why.
Can you maybe look at the evidence you use in your role and see how it helps you do the job you do .. policies, procedures, planning ..
Hope this has helped a little
