Hi again

k3d268, from Unit 306: Plan and organise environments for children and families - The needs of children for quiet periods and privacy as well as opportunities for social interaction with adults and other children.

Quiet areas allow a child to concentration, focus - on a task in hand or on themselves, detach themselves from activity, business or maybe noise, retreat, rest and recover.

Relfect on something that may of happened in a place & time that allows information to embed - where new information can be analysed and where they can recollect thoughts, ideas and feelings.

From a perspective of confidence, self esteem, motivation and the willingness to join in, a quiet area provides somewhere for the children to observe others from and the room around them. Make choices & decisions on whether they want to join/rejoin/participate or not.

Quiet areas are places that should enable children to relax and not feel under pressure to comply, perform or achieve. They can allow new friendships and exisitng ones to develop.

They also provide a safe haven for when a child feels unwell, tired, upset, its somewhere they can take themselves to if the place or person they may ordinarily connect with is unavailable, absent or unwanted.

It's a place that providers can use to monitor children's involvement and separation within the group and a place that children can use to recognise the differences between quiet & activity and then use this information to cope, make sense and organsie their immediate world and other environments.

Quiet areas outside:

Why

Not all children like to run about during play time. Having quiet areas in the grounds allows children to socialise, build friendships, relax, read or simply think. A quiet area can also act as a valuable outdoor classroom. Many schools lack suitable seating, shade or shelter, which is increasingly important to pupils at break time.

Hi beautiful, the knowledge you're asking after is quite in depth, are you able to chat with someone in your setting, look through the groups policies and procedures, ask what happens in different circumstances?

If you can you'll find it much easier to write about your expriences and knowledge.

This thread will help you with K3h277, and this thread includes information from a members own policy - K3s275
