There was a thread about this somewhere in the NVQ4 forum

The books I have found most useful are:-

How children learn (from Montessori to Vygotsky) by Linda Pound (Practical Pre-School) ISBN 1-904575-09-9

Child Development (An Illustrated guide) by Carolyn Meggitt (Heinemann) ISBN 978-0-435420-48-2

Advanced Early Years Care and Education (for levels 4 and 5) (Heinemann) ISBN 0-435-40178-5

How to observe children (Sheila Riddall-Leech) (Heinemann) ISBN 978-0-435401-86-3

I borrowed another one about Child Development - i'll try and find out what it was

Hope this helps
