Book Review Book Review: The Gruffalo's Child ~ Winter time book

Book review and Early Learning planning ideas:

The Gruffalo's Child ~ Written by Julia Donaldson & Illustrated by Axel Scheffler

This great rhyming book is ideal for a winter themed storybook with it's snow covered pages and chilly blue & white background illustrations ..

It gently explores the bravado of fear as the Graffalo's child journeys through the forest in search of a fabled 'monster... encountering different animals along the way it eventually comes across the quick witted mouse that sends the Graffalo's child 'footstepping back home to the safety of a warm cave !

A reassuring book that 'okays the first steps of independance whilst still safe in the knowledge that home is only a short distance away.

There are many other resources available to buy at Amazon.co.uk on The Gruffalo's Child.

Activities you can do in conjunction with this book
  • Snowy trees ~ create your own forest full of snowy branched conifers!
  • Build a wall display maze and map the Gruffalo's Child's journey through the forest and the animals that are met along the way.
  • Talk about similar situations with the children .... Have they ever felt brave enough to play on the swings/slide at the park by themselves whilst mummy/daddy sat on a bench close by Or put rubbish in a litter bin that was a short distance away from Mum or Dad?
