I've never worked with babies, but to motivate colleagues to engage positvely with babies and children under 3 years, as well as working alongside more experienced colleagues who can 'show them the ropes', if they felt confident and comfortable with what they are doing it would help encourage then to engage positively towards the children.
Therefore having regular meetings, training, whether it is inhouse or external courses will give them the knowledge and empower them to feel in charge of what is expected of them.
Having time to spend with their key child or children to build up a rapport and bond with them will motivate them to display positive behaviour.
Training up staff will help them feel more confident in their knowledge and practice.
Praise from colleagues lets them know they are getting it right and gives them more confidence. Sharing your knowledge with them for the benefit of the children helps everyone, and anyone going on a course should share the up-to-date knowledge with all practitioners in the setting. Allowing staff to take any relevant reference books/magazines home from the setting gives them another opportunity to continually learn and may encourage them to upksill. Some practitioners may not feel so confident with ict or have been in the sector for many years and may feel a little out of their depth with current thinking. A good cohesive team, all working together , sharing and encouraging each other in different areas motivates colleagues and is more likely to result in best practice.
I hope this gets you started.
