Food tasting ?

Have you any tips on how to help the children experiment with tasting unfamiliar foods ?

Have you found a certain combination of foods encourages them to try new tastes ... if so which have you found most popular ?

We try food tasting as a large circle time with a mixture of familiar and unfamiliar foods. When their friends try something it tends to help them try something new. Sometimes the adults make out that they don't like something and they then try something new with the child.

We show the children the various foods we have, we talk about them, feel them smell them.
We then prepare them as a group
Then the children are encouraged to shut their eyes adult places a small amount of food usually more exotic fruits, raw vegetabels , the children then have to guess what they are tasting. We talk them through the taste whether it is juicy, sweet crunchy etc. This works with some children others just spit it out

My niece would never eat vegetables at home, but loved soup at our house. I used to put all sorts into home made soup, blend it up with a bit of cream and she loved it. The only meat she would eat was chicken, so we would give her pork and beef and tell her it was a chicken with darker feathers...lol Probably the wrong way of doing it, but worked OK.

She's 14 now, maybe i'll tell her next year

It's a wonder she isn't mental with me as an Aunty. I just love pulling her leg.
