Outcome 1

1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role
1.2 Explain expectations about own work role as expressed in relevant Standards

A HOW TO guide ....
Please consider these questions when approaching the above two assessment criteria ..

1. What area or sector is your work in eg, are you part of the children and young people's workforce? health and social care? teaching? foster and looked after children? why ... because each has its own national occupational standards or NOS that you'll need to look at.
2. Your home nation affects which set of standards you use - do you work in England, NI, Scotland or Wales?
3. Your home nation also affects  which, if any early years framework you use eg. EYFS if in England? your nation's framework sets a mandatory expectation that you will meet what it says within it/the standards, through your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly practice.
4. Do you have any specific responsibilities towards identifying and supporting special or additional learning / educational needs? if yes  you will need to have regard to the SEN code of practice
5. PLEASE make sure you ask your workplace, setting or placement for your job contract, a job description or a list of all the responsibilities and duties that you are expected to perform whilst you are at work or away from work and representing the setting in a professional capacity - eg at a meeting, on a trips or visit ect..
USE this job description or list to compare what you do against industry standards.
As an example - if you are expected to clear, wipe down tables, hoover and risk check areas you are meeting regulations and guidelines for health and safety you are maintaining appropriate environments for children that means you are safeguarding those in your care and visitors to the setting.

Standards may include
Codes of practice - look in your setting's policies to see what code of practice it expects of you and in your job description.

Regulations - your area of work is required to meet national and local regulations - do you know what framework supports you to do this?

Minimum standards -  check your home nation's welfare or care standards that will set the minimum level of provision that the setting and your practices must meet

National occupational standards - are sector expectations for a professional's quality of practice
