2.1 Explain the responsibilities of
a corporate parent - on newcastle.gov.uk
a professional carer
2.2 Explain what is meant by a ‘duty
of care’ - see safe working practices 2009 for a definition
that can be applied to own setting and practice.
2.3 Analyse the impact of professional
relationships on children and young people

impact of professional relationships may include
power relationships - ask yourself 'who ought to be in control'? ... you? ... child?...
parent? manager? Who has the authority and power to make decisions and
are these done in the best interest of the child, the parent, the seting
itself?
Does this cause conflict, discrimination, prejudice, does it empower,
support equality, recognise and value individuals, encourage contributions, celebrate diversity, champion rights,
protect and safeguard?
dealing with an employed professional - ACAS difficult relationships, health
and the workplace, respect an individual regardless of their actions.
Ask for details that explain the expectations for professional conduct,
this will support research. Recording, reporting, whistleblowing, grievance
and complaints policies and procedures provide avenues for disclosing
informaiton and resolving concerns.
2.4 Give examples of poor practice and unprofessional
conduct that may impact on outcomes for
children and young people: eg. language used in the presence of children & young peopl.
Failure to maintain confidentiality. Witholding information that would
safeguard an individual or group against harm. Abuse eg. emotional abuse and name calling, belittling, shaming,
ridiculing, teasing.
2.5 Explain the actions to take where poor practice
and unprofessional conduct are having a negative
impact on outcomes for children and
young people
