• Albert Bandura – Social Learning
This theory accepts the principles of conditioning but also says that we learn by observing other people. This is also called Observational learning.
The theory says that Observational learning is spontaneous, that children learn naturally by imitating rather than being taught.
Observation learning can happen without reinforcement which is the main difference between conditioning
There are two terms that are used:
Model – the person who the child is imitating
Modelling – the process by which learning takes place

How it is implemented in a setting:

• Having a well equipped role play area that changes to give a wide range of experiences where they can carry out behaviour they have seen
• Staff behaving appropriately in front of children
• Adults working/playing alongside children asking questions and listening to them
• Giving children opportunities to work alone as well as in small or large groups
