Physical care routines that minimise cross infection
Hi, thinking about what happens in your setting how do physical care routines help children to learn about looking after themselves. This can be the practices that happen during nappy changing, toileting, eating, petting animals, if a child is feeling poorly and activities eg. rhymes and songs that help adults and the children to understand the reasons for eg. washing their hands, using tissues to blow noses, using the arm to cover a cough, using a pot to hold a rinsed toothbrush.
Pages 33+ of the EYE handbook looks at the different ways to minimise the risk of cross infection (search inside for the word infection)
Age linked ideas include:
Nappy changing routines for children aged 0-12months - wearing protective clothing, using a designated place to change nappies, clearing up aftwerwards.
Sleeping & resting - where does this happen, is the bedding changed, what age children sleep or rest in your setting?
Using toothbrushes
Learning to use the toilet for ages 2-4
Hair care and headlice
Page 25 of the Development Matters guidance will also help you see age related activities that promote hygiene health and self care.
ah yes, the course prepares you for work with children aged 0-5 (if you're taking the Early Years Educator level 3). It means you'll need to speak to more people and research further to make sure your information and knowledge is good xx
