Hi Can anyone help me with this i need to write a definition for each of these -- sequence of development and rate of development and then why is the difference between the sequence of development and rate of development important? i would be soooooo grateful if someone could help
doris
hi doris the sequence of development means thedefinite pattern a child follows when developing eg a baby learns to roll over before it sits up or crawls before they walk babble before they talk each sequence allows the child to build and develop the skills to move on to the next step of development the rate of development is the speed at which the child develops the sequence is almost always the same although a small step maybe missed out eg not crawling just pull themselves straight up and walking you need to know the difference so we can plan individually for the rate of development the child is at and so we can challenge them.
When recording the rate of development it helps you to identify any concerns that you may have within the development area, this enables you to further investigate why this is happening
