Default 'Girls Win, Boys In The Bin'

Girls at my nursery setting are frequently heard chanting this. Should I let this go as harmless banter or do I challenge this as inconsistent with inclusive practice?

If children chanted 'whites win, blacks in the bin' I have no doubt it would be challenged.

Hi, you're quite right it is derogative, you could certainly test the level of respect the girls have for you and their individual boy friendships & say with concern how it doesn't sound nice, girls, boys, big, small all win at different things.

Maybe look at what they're playing whilst chanting and see how the resources can be made more inclusive? Maybe organise a time where everyone can discuss what's happening and invent a few chants to replace this one.

Suggestions for rhymes or rhythmic text that continue to support thier creative, articulate language & literacy ..

Fairies fly, shimmy shimmy high
Boys, girls, all in, together as friends and then we'll win
Bears growl, dogs can howl
Red, blue, yellow too
Ocean boats, water floats
Leaves green, the brightest seen
Apples green, as shiny as I've seen
Pirates gold, what treasures have sold?
Left right, who flys that kite?
Wet water, shining sun, cleans our clothes, makes dressing fun.
Falling rain, plip and plop, looking up, will it stop?
My friend's hat, on the tall coat stand, lift me up, watch me land
Long hair, short hair, two ribbons in a pair
Wind, rain, coats again?
Frown or grin, a smile will win

Best wishes, let us know what happens xx
