I have a question Help please

Hi, really struggling on these questions, any help would be great!!!

2.3. Explain the special provision required by children and young people with whom they work.

2.4. Explain the expected pattern of development for disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs with whom they work.

I've read the books and still can't get my head round it, I just need pointing in the right direction.

Cheers in advanced for the help.

Hi for 2.3 think about your own setting and the children/young people you work with.

In the 3.19 TDA unit from OCR.org.uk it describes special provision as:

Special provision provision which is additional to, or otherwise different from, the provision made generally for children of their age in schools maintained by the Local Authority, other than special schools, in the area.

Depending on your setting, this might include aids and adaptations (the environment, activities, working practice, resources), approaches and attitudes, specific ways of meeting identified needs and to enable full participation.

For 2.4 you need obtain information from your setting so that you understand the disabilities and special educational needs of the children/young people that you work with, then use your existing knowledge of child development and apply that to the pattern of development for the children you work with.

Page 265 of the level 3 STL handbook

Quote: you will need to show how the pupil or pupil you are supporting differ from their peers in their expected pattern of development, If you work with pupils of a particular age range, it will be easier for you to identify whether they are fitting the normal pattern of development for their age, as you will be very familiar with what the rest of the class is able to do.

Link stages of physical, cognitive, communication and social/emotional development on page 149 Understand child an young person development
