Help SOS Environment for the 5senses. unit 206 k2d106, k2d107, k2d110

Im kinda new to this...wondering if anyone can help me. im tryin to do some research on the development of the five senses and how i as a childcare practitioner can contribute to children's development.

This is meant to also answer knowledge;

K2D106 - How to proide a stimulating environment and not stifle children's curiosity, problem solving and exploration.
K2D107 - Tht importance and scope of practical daily activities such as cooking and gardening to enhance children's learning.
K2D110 - The use of everyday routines to support play and learning.

Can anyone give me any pointers or help? or just know of some good books or websites which will help me??

Thank you

Hi,
Children are naturally curious and learn by exploration and investigation. Sensory exploration will enhance children's learning abilities and help them gain knowledge about the world in which they live. Exploring thier senses also gives children opportunities to ask questions and make decisions. A childs natural curiosity may be developed through:

Display tables
Taste and touch activities
Feely box / bag
Different sounds - musical instruments
Outside discovery - closing eyes and saying what they can hear -birds, cars etc
'' '' - smelling flowers , textures

These activities will require adult supervision and think about risk assessments. Children will be able to investigate their senses allowing them to discover differences, similarities and relationships between different objects.

Cooking activity - describing textures, feeling textures - runny, lumpy smooth etc , what does it smell like?, taste - sweet, sour, does it make a sound when it is mixed? - e.g rice crispy cakes ..........

Childrens curiosity should not be surpressed or stifled as they learn so many different things through investigation and doing so may harm a childs confidence and their self esteem and stop them from trying out new things.

Hope this helps you a bit
Good luck
