Children need to be kept safe from harm. However, children also need to experience risk...

To balance these, we need to support and enable children to manage their own risk.

For example, you might involve children in their own risk assessments... how does this help?

Well it prepares them for the outside world so that they know when to stop, when to take risks and when to ask for help.

Risk assessing for each child's needs means that you are showing you understand their individual strengths and weaknesses and know when to support them and when to let them make their own minds up about what they are doing.
