Default CYP 3.3 the importance of children being protected from harm while in your setting

Need to resubmit 3.1 and 3.2 on Tuesday night Tutor feedback reads: "you have been able to explain in detail the importance of children being protected from harm while in your setting and in your care. You should have explained in more detail what those policies are, showing a wider understanding."

What I had written was:

The importance of protecting children from harm within the work setting should be obvious. For a start, parents leave their children in our care and trust us to ensure that are safe and well cared for. Failing to do so is not only unprofessional, but a gross breach of professionalism.

One step to ensure that children and young people are safe from harm is to ensure that every member of staff has undergone a Criminal Records Bureau check – from teachers and teaching assistants to cleaners and diner ladies. Everyone within the work setting has, theoretically, the opportunity to harm the children; therefore everyone needs to have undergone this check.

The equipment the children or young people have access to should be age appropriate and tasks should be stimulating. This will ensure that every child or young person within the work setting has an enjoyable time. As explained by Meggitt (p124, 2011, Meggitt): “Practitioners need to actively promote the wellbeing of every child. This includes providing opportunities to play, communicate and socialise with each other in the setting.”

Part of this responsibility is ensuring that no child is left behind. Some children may have development delays and need extra support, others may have additional learning needs; while others may be classed as ‘at risk’. These children and young people have an equal right to being protected from harm within their educational setting, and it is important for practitioners to keep on top of these things.

The for 3.2 I talk about the policies in my setting.

What am I missing?!?!?!?

I covered for that section the following in detail.
Health and safety including a risk assesment
Saftey of toys and play equipment ( kite make ect)
Safety in the food preparation area including storage ect
Safety in the play area hight, size, age appriate
Outdoor play area including acsess, space, ground,
Other areas including bathroom,
staffing levals and qualificatrion
confidentualty of information
I also included the timetable of my setting showing when, what and who does what within the setting.
It was alot but I have crossed ref this info often to other section within my course.
Also include ECM 5 outcomes

Hi

for 3.2 i also wrote about policies and procedures that are in place within your setting such as:
  • Nappy changing policy and procedure
  • Positive behaviour policy and procedures
  • supervision of outings/visits policy and procedure
  • Safeguarding children and child protection policy and procedure
  • Safeguarding children and child protection procedures on photography and video
  • Information sharing policy and procedure
  • whistle blowing policy and procedure
i also stated that all policies and procedures are on show to parents/carers/visitors etc

Hope it gives you some ideas.

Hi. I need help on 3.1-Explain why it is important to ensure children and young people are protected from harm within the work setting. Anybody help?!

It is important to ensure that all children in your setting are safe and protected from any harm. This is because; parents and carers put their trust into you to look after their child while they are away. It is important to be able to develop a happy relationship with parents and also the children, so you can work together to create a health environment with a positive atmosphere. For many parents, especially first time moms, it is difficult for them to leave their child behind. For this reason they need to be sure that they are putting their child in a healthy, happy and safe environment.
To ensure that the children are safe in the setting, all members of staff need to have under gone a DBS check. This makes sure that all staff are suited to work with or around children.
Also, all toys should be age appropriate so that young children do not choke on any small parts. Toys and any other objects that the children may use should be cleaned every day to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses.
All gates and doors should be kept closed and locked so that the children are unable to escape from the setting, as they would be putting themselves in potential danger.
In my setting, when a practitioner is preparing children’s food, they must have their hair tied back, wash their hands and wear a white disposable apron. This ensures that no bacteria is spread through their food, making them ill.
All staff should have the required qualifications to ensure that they understand what their job role involves and how to care for the children.
