Pack up your bag ...

Rambling, walking or an afternoon stroll ~ if you're taking children along it's always great to have a few ideas and props tucked in a bag to maximise their enjoyment of the surroundings.

If possible take along ...

Camera
Notpad and pen
Carrier bag ... (+ lots of smaller ones if you have a dog ) or a bucket to collect things in.
Drink of water.
Facila wipes and or tissues
Umbrella

An organised trip out is slightly different than the usual impromptu wanderings ... and indeed something that's recently been on the news as the Gov. strive to encourage more outings with the children...

PRIOR to the Walk

Consent Form
Ask parents to fill out a consent form.
Give details of :-
  • Date of trip
  • Route/area of the trip
  • Give a contact number so that parents can call when and if necessary.
  • Leaving and returning times.
  • Request suitable clothing and footwear.
If returning out of normal hours - check who will be collecting the child.
  • Medical history and allergies
  • Ask for 2 emergency contact names and telephone numbers per child.
Risk Assesment - officially, you may be asked to walk the route before hand and complete a risk assessment of the area ..
  • Take note of where a toilet is !!
  • If there are any busy roads to cross and where the safest place to cross is.
  • What the child - adult ratio will be.
  • Organise volunteers beforehand - everyone will need to hold a current crb certificate.
  • Sundries
  • Charged mobile phone with credit.
  • Parental contact details and medical consent forms.
  • Any medication (inhalers etc) needed - stored in appropriate named container.
  • Mini first aid box
  • If possible ask for the children to bring their own bottle of water.
  • Small bags for the children to collect things in on the way.
Use the collected bits & pieces as a display in your group.
A show and tell activity can also be a planned activity or as and when.

It does seem alot of hassle .. but it's worth it

Pleas eadd on with hints, tips and ideas ....
