Default Planning for discussion Cyp3.2-2.3 / Cypop1-2.3

Hi everyone

I have a discussion planned for next week. One of the questions is:

Why is an individual plan necessary for some children in the setting?

To which I was going to say 'individual plans are necessary for some children as their specific needs cannot be met by the overall nursery planning. One of the themes of the EYFS is 'A unique child'. Each child is an individual and is different so it is important to focus on a child's individual needs as they develop at different rates. Planning for individual children's development and learning is a key requirement for the EYfS although plans for the children in the EYFS will also be linked to the six areas of learning.

The second part of the question is 'why is the overall plan for the setting not always suitable to meet each child's needs?

Does this not warrant the same answer as above?

Perhaps someone could give me their view. Thank you

My view personally would be like you said, it should warrant the same answer, I would maybe say what you already said but expand on it? Something like, "As I mentioned in the previous question not all childrens needs can be met, all childrens learning stages are different some are at a further stage than others and to plan for a certain stage would be unfair to the children who are maybe not upto what their peers are. Other children may be going through important transitions in their lives which they may need support with within the setting and to plan around that is vitally important in supporting that child and fulfilling a possible need and helping the child to feel secure"

This is only my view, hope its ok?
