News Item Learning about where babies come from

My son is four and a half. He hasn't asked how the baby got into my tummy (yet!) but is interested in what it is like in there.

He knows that it is growing and where it will come out. I've explained that it isn't breathing yet, that it doesn't breathe for itselfs until it is born.

I think he would benefit from seeing some pictures in a book. Can you recommend an age appropriate book that explains all about how babies develop/are born and has pictures?

Thanks,
Michelle

Oh I bet he's excited about everything

Not sure about book titles, we had Usborne's The new baby which focuses more on after baby arrives !

Your scan pictures would be great for making baby 'his, have you got any extra pregnancy mags that you could use & build up a scrapbook with him ?

Thanks, we have the book you mentioned from when DD was born. We've also got a Topsy and Tim title that is very similar.

Good idea about the magazines, I've not bought any but will get one.

I've just seen this book in town - 'What's inside your tummy mummy' ISBN: 1862303606 it was excellent - big, really nice illustrations and easy to read text. Written by Abby Cocovini.

Thanks Ruth, that looks really good.

He found a scan picture from when I was pregnant with him the other day, he was really interested in that.

We've had all kinds of questions from him and his three year old sister:

Is the baby flat in your tummy?

Is it in your boobs too? :rotfl:

When you are eating chocolate does the baby eat it in your tummy?

Will the hospital tell us its name?
