Hi, the reason why you need to keep your employer upto date with these personal details is so that everyone can keep in contact, help to verify identity, organise payments and receive important documents through the post.

1. Keeping your address upto date and accurate enables your employer to verify your residency, send you letters/contracts/information through the post and check that they have the correct details for paying you your wages.

2. a telephone number enables employers to contact you in an emergency and discuss work related issues.

3. if you change your name - by deed poll. get married or divorce and begin using a different name, your employer will need to update their records so that they use the correct name when contacting you or making payments to a bank account.

4. If driving is part of your workplace role you will need to inform them of any offences so that they can check with an insurance company if you are still covered to drive others.

5. If you are pregnant you need to let your employer know as you will be entitled to time off for appointments, maternity leave and other considerations such as lifting and standing for long periods of time: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/rights-at-work/parental-rights/rights-while-youre-pregnant-at-work/

6. If you are ill your employer will expect you to to contact them so that adjustments to staffing numbers can be made - this makes sure settings are able to maintain their legal ratios. If an illness is long term your employer will need to organise sick pay for you and arrange cover for your time off.

7. If you apply to work with children, young people or vulnerable adults you will be expected to fill in a Disclosure form which is then sent to the Disclosure and Barring Service where criminal records are checked. Settings are required by law to make safe recruitment decisions.

When you began working at your setting what personal information did you give to them and why do they need it?

Best wishes xx
