Hiya!
I am currently struggling with this question could any1 help me please!

Steven is 8yrs old and has autism. He has no awareness of danger. Your outside play area has a latched gate. One day steven discovers how to open the fire doors inside your hall. For safety reasons they cannot be locked during a session.

1. How will you ensure that steven cannot wander away?

Thank you

Hi and welcome.

The fire doors are not to be locked for safety reasons but what about the gate?

You can also consider the indoors and outdoors - two environments. What corridors, items, people Steven might pass on his journey. These are all potential interventions and dangers but may or maynot stop a determined Steven.

Hth, enjoy the site.

I don't know how your nursery is setup but check your fire escapes as at mine the gate is part of our escape route and so can't be locked, our latches are on the outside so an adult can reach over and open the gate but a child can't, you can also get alarms that let you know that a door is open, it won't stop him opening it but would ensure someone knew he had.
