training for childminders

Hi Elaine! Childminders need to do training at level 3 as we are in supervisory positions so the S/NVQ Childcare learning and development level3 or the Diploma in home-based childcare would be a good place to start. Check out the NCMA website or Scottish equivalent or ask your network coordinator or childcare team for advice. Good luck! I want to do more training too.

Default Childminder Training

When you first register as a childminder, you are now required to take an "Introducation to Childminding Practice" course, which is part of the Cache Level 3 Certificate in Childminding Practice. Its a short course with a small assignment at the end, but covers the basics of all aspects childminding. You can do more if you wish, but I think this is the minimum. It certainly is in Darlington anyway, I am pretty sure it will be the same nationally.

Your local Early Years dept would be the best place to advise you on what the requirement is where you live. They should help you through the whole process.

I live in the Darlington area and have just recently qualified in NVQ3 EYCE...
Before i can practice as a childminder would i also need to attend the "Introduction to childmiding Practice"??
I have just began the process of registering.

you need to complete an icp within 6months of starting childminding - however, i would advicse that u do the icp before starting childminding - u get lots of info, advice and help that will support you in setting up your business!
