I am guessing its so that the child can learn at their own pace...like toileting....its hard to learn to use the loo if you get hurried along at adult speed and get told to hurry up all the time....same with eating, if you put preasure on the child their self confidence gets damaged. hope that sort of helps.

because hurrying of for the practitioner and wastes a wonderful opportunity for conversation and sharing. hurrying is an adult activity which has no room in a early years setting unless there is an emergency. if you have to hurry then you need to examine your set up and practice.
