3D Secure Credit Card Payments.

3D Secure Credit Card payments

As of today we have joined the new 3D Secure system introduced by Mastercard & Visa for processing customers credit card payments ~

What does 3D secure mean ....

3D Secure stands for 3 Domains Secure ..

1. Us/the merchant 2. The acquiring bank 3. Mastercard or Visa

Basically, if your credit card uses Matercard or Visa services to pay for anything online, you will be asked at the store's checkout to login to, or to register the card & yourself with them.

It's like a double security check to ensure that you are the real owner of the credit card and as such it also protects us (the merchant) from a 'charge back' claim ~ where a customer makes a complaint and claims back their money from the merchant/shop saying that their card was used inappropriately or fraudulently.

The whole 3D secure scheme is more in line for retailers supplying higher priced goods but is a good start at protecting both the customer & merchant from online fraud

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Silkysteps ... this is what the registration process looks like ..
Once you've chosen your goods ~
gone to the checkout ~
Created or Logged into your Silkysteps account
Entered your delivery & payment details
and clicked submit ..
A page will be displayed - the logo will depend if you are paying by Visa or Mastercard..
Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code
Here ...
You'll need to provide your Name, Date of birth, Credit card number/expiry date and csv security code and a valid email address ....
On the click of the 'Continue' button ...
You will automatically be given a 'Login' name to use in the future and on the next page it will ask you to create a Password.
The submit button will confirm your registration with visa/mastercard and the transaction will proceed securely.
Your Invoice from us with the download link will be immediately sent to your email address !
Please remember though, this is a safety & security feature that we have 'brought into Silkysteps and built as part of our website design and store security ~ it is NOT run by us ~ Mastercard and Visa are the officiating bodies that develop and maintain the system... if you forget your password use the link on the page provided so that it can be resent or contact them directly .. we have no access to any of this information.
The Login name and password you set will apply to every website you visit and purchase goods from .. as long as that website has activated their 3D secure registration with their gateway payment providers .. 3D secure is a free service to merchants.. although the integration of it may cost.
As always ~ be vigillant on the internet & be wary of any store you are about to make a purchase from.
Do they have a Privacy or Terms & Conditions page .. what are their contact details ~ is there a telephone number and Postal/Physical address listed ?
These are legally required details in the UK if the online store is asking for credit card payments in advance of the goods and of course an email address to get in touch by is always a good customer call point !
Please see the Distance selling regulations for more details.
These are the Logos to look out for on other websites ...
Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For anyone interested in 'How it works' .. this is a basic overview of the process ..

ON SILKYSTEPS
  • Customer chooses & adds their goods to their basket & when ready heads off to the Checkout.
  • Creates or logs into their original Silkysteps account.
  • Enters their Name and payment details on the invoice page.
  • These details are then sent to our Gateway payment providers Protx who check the details and send you a 3D secure login page.
  • Once you've logged in and confirmed you are the visa / mastercard owner
  • They then send an 'OK' signal back to us and the order process and payment is completed.
  • Your invoice & download link will be sent to your email address & you can login to your Silkysteps Account and download your files !

    WHAT happens after that ..
  • The payment recieved from our customer is then sent on/transfered from protx to our IMA - internet merchant account .. which is then in turn transfered on again to our 'Highstreet' Business bank account simple huh lol
We do take Paypal payments if that's more convenient for customers .. which doesn't use the above process ~ drop us an email with what you want to purchase & we'll prepare to send them to you once Paypal have notified us of 'new funds !

Really useful advice, thanks! There are some good sites online with great info on credit cards such as this one on credit card fraud protection and this one on help with debt. Hope you find these useful as well!
